Common Questions

To help you choose the right mobile disco hire for your wedding reception music and entertainment I have voluntarily given more information on myself and answer the questions that most people have about wedding mobile disco hire and also contains numerous questions many hadn't even thought of asking.

Booking a DJ for your wedding is usually a first time experience and thus many couples are not familiar with what they need to look out for...there is no such thing as a silly question, just one that hasn't been asked.

So here goes...

Where are you based John?

I'm originally from Belfast but now live in Lurgan (so that technically makes me a 'Blowin').

How long have you been in the mobile disco hire business John?

I have been a wedding DJ in Northern Ireland now for 15 years and have entertained 1000s of guests at wedding receptions, hotels, clubs and bars.

How soon should we book you to provide our wedding reception music?

About 6-18 months prior to your evening reception to ensure you book who you really want to provide quality entertainment for you and your guests.

Do you provide a written contract as part of your mobile wedding disco?

Yes if required, signed and agreed by my clients and myself so we all know where we stand.

Do you require a deposit and when is the final payment due?

A £100 deposit is normally required to secure any booking. The final payment is normally made 2-4 weeks prior to the event or at the start of the evening reception (so the Best man doesn't spend it at the bar!).

How will you be dressed?

I will be smartly dressed...you and your guests have made the effort so why shouldn't I!

How long do you normally play for and what time do you normally start?

This will depend on what the package the Bride and Groom choose. The starting time of a wedding reception usually begins at about 8pm.

Can we come and see you in action at a wedding reception?

Personally speaking I have absolutely no problem with this but as I specialise in wedding reception entertainment Bride and Grooms from experience do not like the idea of 'viewing' on their 'Big Day'. However, an alternative is to meet up with me for a 'No obligation' consultation which normally takes place at my home.

Do I book a DJ for my wedding to provide the full nights' entertainment or is it always necessary to have a band also?

Booking a band is down to personal choice and budget but not essential. The best option for many reasons is to book a wedding DJ for your evening who will play music by original artists and has a vastly more extensive range of music for you and your guests to enjoy and is more cost effective than a band plus DJ.

What kind of wedding reception music do you play?

My music will generally depend on the guests at the wedding reception and what has been agreed with the Bride and Groom. I try to please everyone and play popular floor filling songs from the 50s,60s,70s,80s,90s,2000s and present day. I would normally play a few waltzes/jives for the more mature guests  and songs for any children present.

Would you be happy enough to accept and play requests for the guests?

Absolutely, I normally announce that I accept and play requests (within reason) and that won't offend, for example I was once asked to play Iron Maiden's song "Bring your daughter to the slaughter" I politely declined the request.

What currently is the most requested song for the first dance?

Requests do vary from couple to couple but my most popular request for the First Dance is "Amazed" by Lonestar.

Have you ever had any strange requests?

Yes, quite a number over the years...one memorable request was La Bamba by Los Lobos for the first dance! It actually worked out very well as the Bride was a professional dancer!

Some wedding DJs seem to play the same songs at every wedding. Is there a particular repertoire?

Indeed, some wedding DJs will play the same songs at every wedding reception for many reasons including... not having a wide range of music, inexperience or just sheer laziness.

I treat every wedding reception as being 'unique'. I in consultation with the Bride and Groom will always cater for the guests at a wedding reception and play as many requests as I can.
